The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) supports residents in a Long Term Care (LTC) setting by implementing treatment plans developed by an Occupational Therapist. The OTA helps residents regain or improve their ability to perform daily living and self-care activities, promoting independence and quality of life.
Carry out individualized OT treatment plans focused on ADLs (activities of daily living)
Instruct and assist residents in the use of adaptive equipment and techniques
Document resident progress and communicate observations to the Occupational Therapist
Support therapeutic group and individual sessions under OT supervision
Assist in care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings
Educate patients, caregivers, and staff on strategies to enhance functional independence
Ensure safety, dignity, and respect in all resident interactions
Maintain compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA)
Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Current OTA certification and state licensure (as required)
Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred
Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills
BLS/CPR certification may be required
