Job Description

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) supports residents in a Long Term Care (LTC) setting by implementing treatment plans developed by an Occupational Therapist. The OTA helps residents regain or improve their ability to perform daily living and self-care activities, promoting independence and quality of life.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out individualized OT treatment plans focused on ADLs (activities of daily living)

  • Instruct and assist residents in the use of adaptive equipment and techniques

  • Document resident progress and communicate observations to the Occupational Therapist

  • Support therapeutic group and individual sessions under OT supervision

  • Assist in care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings

  • Educate patients, caregivers, and staff on strategies to enhance functional independence

  • Ensure safety, dignity, and respect in all resident interactions

  • Maintain compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA)


Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program

  • Current OTA certification and state licensure (as required)

  • Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills

  • BLS/CPR certification may be required
